AI Christmas Card Generator

GPT Image 2

Christmas card season starts earlier than most people expect. In Google Trends for the US, searches for "christmas card" hit their highest point of the past three months on October 26 and are still climbing toward December. This generator makes the card itself: a printable or shareable design with your own greeting and family name on it, in the style you want.

The two examples below cover the most common jobs: a classic illustrated card from the whole family, and a photo card starring a pet. Each prompt is written so you can change the words, the colors or the animal without breaking the layout.

Good card prompts name the scene in detail (snowy village, cardinal on a pine branch, tree with warm white lights), give two or three colors, and say where the text goes. Put every line of text in quotes, keep it to two short lines, and end with "render exactly this text and no other words". Then check every letter before you order prints.

How to use it

  1. Step 1

    Choose the card style

Illustrated (watercolor village, botanical, minimalist foil) or a photo card. Pick 4:5 for a standard 5×7 or 4×5 print and for Instagram, or 9:16 for a phone story.

  2. Step 2

Write the greeting and the scene

Quote each line exactly, such as "Merry Christmas" and "Love, the Carter Family". Then describe the picture, two or three colors and where the text sits: top, bottom panel or centered over the scene.

  3. Step 3

    Generate, proofread and print

Paste the prompt into the generator, read every word in the result and regenerate if a letter is off. Download the full-size image and upload it to any print shop, or send it straight to the family group chat.

Examples and prompts

Watercolor Christmas card with Merry Christmas in dark red script and Love, the Carter Family below, above a snowy village with glowing cottages, a church steeple and a stone bridge over a stream

Family card: a watercolor snowy village with a greeting and a family sign-off.

A vertical Christmas greeting card design. Soft cream watercolor paper texture background. A loose, delicate watercolor illustration of a snowy village at dusk fills the lower two-thirds: small cottages with glowing windows, snow-covered rooftops, pine trees, a little church steeple and gently falling snow, in deep green, burgundy, soft gold and winter blue. At the top, centered, the text "Merry Christmas" in an elegant dark red brush script, and below it smaller text "Love, the Carter Family" in a simple dark green serif. Render exactly this text and no other words. Generous margins, balanced spacing, print-ready card design.
Photo Christmas card of a golden retriever in a red knitted scarf lying on a plaid blanket by a decorated tree and presents, with Merry Christmas from Biscuit on a green panel below

Pet photo card: a dog by the tree with a two-line greeting panel.

A vertical photo Christmas card. Top 70%: a warm, photorealistic photograph of a golden retriever wearing a red knitted scarf, sitting on a plaid blanket in front of a decorated Christmas tree with warm white lights and red and gold ornaments, wrapped presents beside it, soft bokeh, natural dog anatomy, happy relaxed expression. Bottom 30%: a solid deep green panel with the text "Merry Christmas" in a cream serif display font and below it, smaller, "from Biscuit" in gold script. Render exactly this text and no other words. Clean card layout with a thin cream border.

FAQ

Can I put my family name or my own message on the card?

Yes. Replace the quoted lines in the prompt, for example "Happy Holidays" and "With love from the Nguyen family". Two short lines work best. Keep the instruction "render exactly this text and no other words" and proofread before printing, because a single wrong letter is easy to miss on a small preview.

Can I make a card with my own pet or family photo?

The pet example above is generated from a text description, so you can describe your own dog or cat by breed, color and markings. To put a real photo of your family or pet on a card, generate the design with an empty photo area instead, then place your photo in it with any card editor or print shop template.

What size should I generate for printing?

Use 4:5 for 4×5 and 8×10 prints and for Instagram posts. A 5×7 card is a little taller and narrower than 4:5, so filling it trims roughly a tenth off the sides: keep text and faces away from the left and right edges. Download the full-resolution image for printing.

When should I send Christmas cards in 2026?

Christmas Day is Friday, December 25. For mail within the US, many people aim to post cards by mid-December; international mail needs longer, so check your postal service's holiday shipping deadlines. Digital cards can go out any time, including on Christmas Eve.

Can I sell or use these card designs commercially?

See our terms for how you can use generated images. Avoid prompts that copy trademarked characters, logos or a specific artist's signature style, and use only names you have permission to print.
